Golf Courses in England to Host the Open

There are only six golf courses in England that have hosted The Open Championship in its' long history. These course are Royal St George's (Sandwich), Royal Liverpool (Hoylake), Royal Cinque Ports (Deal), Prince's, Royal Lytham and St Annes and Royal Birkdale. England has hosted The Open a total of forty six times with next Open Championship being staged in England in 2012. Royal Lytham & St Annes will be the venue for The 2012 Open.
Royal St George's (Sandwich)

Royal St George's golf course was the first course to host The Open outside of Scotland in the year 1894. Royal St George's has hosted The Open Championship 13 times with the most recent being in 2003 when Ben Curtis became the Open Champion at his first attempt. 2011 will see the return of The Open Championship to "Sandwich".

Royal St Georges is a 6565 yards par 70 course.

Royal Liverpool became a regular on The Open circuit in 1897 and has staged The Championship eleven times since then. The 2006 Open was won by Tiger Woods at Royal Liverpool and The Open will return there again in 2014.

Royal Liverpool is a 7258 yards par 72 course.

Royal Cinque Ports (Deal Golf Golf Course)

Having only hosted The Open twice, once in 1909 when J. H. Taylor was victorious and also in 1920 when George Duncan won, Royal Cinque Ports is a true links course which would be worthy of staging another Championship.

Royal St Cinque Ports is a 6785 yards par 72 course.

Royal Lytham and St Annes

Royal Lytham and St Annes

Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club was first introduced to The Open in 1926 and found an extremely famous and popular winner - Bobby Jones. Lytham has since staged The Open nine times with David Duval being the most recent champion there in 2001 and will return again to Lytham in 2012.

Royal Lytham & St Annes is a 6673 yards par 71 course.

Royal Birkdale

Strangely enough, Royal Birkdale is the most recent golf course in England to have been chosen by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club to play host to The Open. Many golfers regard Birkdale as the best links course in England. Peter Thomson, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and Tom Watson are among those who have won The Open here.

Royal Birkdale is a 6726 yards par 72 course.
