There are only six golf courses in England that have hosted The Open Championship
in its' long history. These course are Royal St George's (Sandwich), Royal Liverpool
(Hoylake), Royal Cinque Ports (Deal), Prince's, Royal Lytham and St Annes and
Royal Birkdale. England has hosted The Open a total of forty six times with next

and also in 1920 when George Duncan won, Royal Cinque Ports is a true links course

Strangely enough, Royal Birkdale is the most recent golf course in England to
have been chosen by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club to play host to The Open.
Many golfers regard Birkdale as the best links course in England. Peter Thomson,

Prince's Golf Club is situated in Sandwich with Royal St George's Golf Club as
its' neighbour. Having only staged The Open in 1932, Prince's is still used for
Open Qualifying when The Open is at Royal St George's. Gene Sarazen is the only
