Ryder Cup History

Thirty seven Ryder Cup matches have taken between American and British/European teams since 1927. The first match was held at Worcester Country Club, Massachussets in 1927 and the latest was at Valhalla GC, Kentucky. Originally the Ryder Cup was played between a team of American golfers and a team of British golfers. However, in 1979 the British team was changed to a European team and since then the results have been more evenly balanced. The Ryder Cup has produced some of the finest moments in golfing history such as the match between Tony Jacklin and Jack Nicklaus in 1969 when they halved their match on the final hole to tie for the Ryder Cup for the first time.
