The 2008 Ryder
Cup was held at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky from 16th - 21st September
2008. After 3 straight defeats, the USA team managed to get their hands back on
the cup after 9 years with a convincing 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 points victory. Led by
six rookie players, the USA put in a great performance in the singles matches
on Sunday to sink any hopes that the Europeans had of clawing back their 2 point
disadvantage from the foresomes and fourballs matches on Thursday and Friday.
The USA win was a their best performance since their 18 ½ - 9 ½
victory at Walton Heath Golf Club back in 1981.
The Ryder Cup returns
to British soil again in 2010 at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales when the Europeans
will be desperate to bring the cup to this side of the Atlantic.
