TRAVEL
INSURANCE Nobody expects to cancel or curtail their travel arrangements,
but every year generally due to unfortunate circumstances there are a few who
are left in this position. When considering whether to take travel insurance or
not it is most important that you understand the financial loss which you will
incur in relation to not only your holiday costs but also those associated with
medical and health cover for an injury or sudden illness abroad. For example an
air ambulance is likely to cost in excess of £45,000.00 from the UK to the
USA's east coast. Even a scheduled flight, stretcher and doctor escort to Australia
will be in excess of £20,000.00. Many people think their credit card accident
cover, home insurance, or private health cover is sufficient but in most situations,
this is not the case.
Your Travel Insurance should cover the whole time
you are away and include a minimum of the following:
Cancellation
or Curtailment Cover: A number of situations may cause you to call off your
trip or cut it short. This may be for a number of reasons including the following:
~
Injury or illness of insured, travel companion, family member, or business partner ~
Hurricane or natural disaster strikes destination ~ Terrorism or mandatory
evacuation at destination ~ Home or business damaged, vandalised, or burglarised ~
Jury duty or military redeployment ~ Required to work, terminated, or transferred ~
Victim of felonious assault prior to trip ~ Traffic accident prior to trip ~
Theft of passport or visa prior to trip
Medical and Health Cover:
Medical and Health Cover for an injury or sudden illness abroad, 24 hour emergency
service and assistance, personal liability cover in case you are sued for causing
injury or damaging property, lost and stolen possessions cover, extra cover for
hazardous activities that are commonly excluded from standard policies. Luggage:
Reimbursement for lost, stolen or damaged luggage and belongings throughout your
trip along with travel assistance to replace lost or stolen prescriptions, passports,
visas or other important travel documents.
Delays: Coverage for
trip delay and baggage delay, providing reimbursement for unplanned hotel expenses,
meals, clothing and transportation costs. IMPORTANT: Always ensure
that your policy refunds the full cost of your holiday. It must pay out if you
need to cancel or cut short a trip. Your policy should also cover any pre-paid
expenses such as excursions, golf, dinners. Also, it is common practice for insurance
providers to only accept applications within a few days of making a reservation
and paying the deposit for a schedule. It is therefore recommended that insurance
should be taken early in the booking process.
