Golf Courses in South Wales

Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

Probably the most famous course in Wales, Royal Porthcawl is best described as a heathland/downland links course. With holes which point in every direction, Royal Porthcawl is at its most challenging when the wind is blowing. The Walker Cup was held here in 1995 when Great Britain & Ireland defeated the United States by 14 points to 10 - Tiger Woods being on the losing side! Royal Porthcawl is the venue for the 2002 British Amateur Championship.

Royal Porthcawl is a 6406 yards par 72 course.

Ashburnam Golf Club
Ashburnam Golf Club

The Ashburham course, measured at almost 7000 yards from the back tees, offers a wide variety of holes with several long par fours, excellent par threes and four par fives. The toughest hole is probably the dogleg ninth where pot bunkers at the elbow gather many a loose tee shot. The course itself is laid out in almost the classic links style - 8 out and 10 back.

Ashburham is a 6916 yards par 72 course.

Southerndown Golf Club

Superb views overlooking the Bristol Channel, Porthcawl and North Devon characterise this downland links course. The undulating fairways and tight lies are Southerndowns' most prominent features and the closing holes, usually played into the wind, are the most memorable. The 18th will be remembered for its split level fairway which is guarded by gorse on the right hand side.

Southerndown is a 6417 yards par 70 course.

Monmouthshire Golf Club

The Monmouthshire golf course is a parkland course set in the valley of the River Usk. Founded in 1892, Monmouthshire Golf Club is the oldest in the country and was originally a nine hole golf course. James Braid was drafted in to design the layout of the course when it was developed into an 18 hole course. This course is most stunning in the summer will no doubt be remembered for its three consecutive par fives - the sixth seventh and eighth holes.

Monmouthshire is a 5978 yards par 70 course.
